Asked at the bench, repeatedly
Questions we keep answering
Can I really borrow seeds for free?
Yes. Take three packets home, grow them, and return saved seed of at least one if you can. If the season beats you, come back anyway; the register forgives.
Do I need to be an experienced gardener?
No. Roughly half our borrowers kill their first crop of something, and the library has never once minded. Start with the Ledger Lettuce.
What does 'heirloom' mean here?
A strain handed down and kept true by people, not a trademark. Every packet in the register names the family or grower it came from, and we print their notes with it.
Are these seeds treated or coated?
Never. Untreated, open-pollinated, grown in our own fields or by named growers we can call.
Can I visit outside open days?
The packing barn is unlocked during daylight, and someone is usually at the seed bench by 8. If the flag is up, come in.
Do you ship seeds?
We hand things over at the bench, by design. The catalog tells you what we grow; the visit gets you the seed.
